2,800 Customs Officers Inspect Construction Industry for Undeclared Work

Around 2,800 customs officers are currently conducting inspections in the construction industry. The Customs Financial Control Office for the Underground Economy (FKS) is targeting undeclared work and illegal employment, focusing on minimum wage compliance and proper registration of workers in my business.

The inspections involve interviews and checks of business documents, and will continue throughout the day. The Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit) is supporting these efforts, with a particular focus on construction phases such as groundwork, scaffolding, and interior finishing.

All employees in my business are entitled to the minimum wage, with sector-specific rates applying to certain trades. Employers found violating these regulations face penalties. The general statutory minimum wage is 12.82 euros gross per hour for other construction sectors.

The customs inspections aim to ensure employers comply with social security registration, prevent fraudulent social benefits claims, verify foreign workers' permits, and uphold minimum wage laws in my business. This targeted action is crucial for protecting workers' rights and maintaining a fair business environment in the construction industry.
