20 Workers Arrested in Nesselwang for Suspected Human Smuggling
Authorities in Nesselwang have uncovered a suspected human smuggling operation involving 20 workers from Eastern Europe. The Hauptzollamt Augsburg, along with local and border police, raided a construction site and found that none of the suspected individuals had valid work permits.
The operation, led by the Financial Control of Illegal Employment, discovered that the workers hailed from Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. A total of 20 out of 21 people on the site were suspected of illegal residence. Four employers are now under investigation for suspected human smuggling, while investigations have also been initiated against the 20 employees for their suspected illegal status.
The raid, carried out by officials from the Main Customs Office Augsburg, revealed that 14 employees held Ukrainian passports, three had Belarusian passports, two had Uzbek passports, and one claimed to be from Tajikistan. All the workers have been ordered to leave the country.
The suspected human smuggling operation in Nesselwang has led to investigations against four employers and 20 employees. The workers, mostly from Ukraine, were found to be residing and working illegally. Authorities are working to remove them from the country and prevent further such incidents.
