AeroVironment Wins $499M U.S. Air Force Contract for Electromagnetic Radiation Protection

AeroVironment has secured a significant 10-year, $499M contract with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory. The deal, part of the High-Performance Electromagnetic Spectrum Survivable Materials Advancement (HELMSSMAN) program, aims to bolster protection for American warfighters against harmful electromagnetic spectrum radiation.

The initial phase of this contract involves two substantial task orders. The first, worth $148M, is titled 'Advanced Development of Materials for Electromagnetic Spectrum Resilience'. This task order will explore the effects of electromagnetic spectrum sources on U.S. materials and propose mitigation strategies.

The second task order, valued at $98M, focuses on 'Advanced Development of Vision Protection Materials'. This aspect of the project will concentrate on enhancing electromagnetic spectrum protection capabilities, particularly for visual systems.

AeroVironment, Inc. has been awarded a total of $246M through these initial task orders. The overall 10-year contract, worth $499M, underscores the U.S. Air Force's commitment to advancing material technology and deploying protective solutions to safeguard its personnel from electromagnetic spectrum radiation.
