Algarve Reinforces Financial Resources to Counter Rural Blazes

The Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL) has announced a new protocol that will enhance the firefighting efforts in the region. This undertaking involves 16 Algarve municipalities, the Algarve National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority, the Algarve Firefighters Federation, and 13 humanitarian firefighter associations.

Under this agreement, funds allocated to the Special Rural Firefighting Device (DECIR) are expected to increase significantly this year, to support firefighters during peak tourist seasons. The National Civil Protection Authority will contribute €75 per day to each firefighter, representing a 7.70 euros increase compared to last year. Additionally, the Algarve municipalities will contribute a collective sum of €883,920.

Each of the 1,191 firefighters forming DECIR will receive a daily contribution of €30 - a €4 increase compared to 2024 - as decided in a recent meeting of the Intermunicipal Council. The remaining funds, intended for the payment of services rendered by firefighters, will be distributed among the municipalities.

The Algarve Intermunicipal Community, a regional coordinating body, initiates this protocol annually to ensure the presence of dedicated firefighting teams during the period most susceptible to rural fires. The agreement is effective from May 15 to October 15 and outlines the financing guidelines for creating DECIR.

Historically, this device has demonstrated significant effectiveness in the initial firefighting stages, according to AMAL. The goal is to maintain teams that can tackle rural fires without affecting the response to other emergency incidents.

While research reveals no direct information on the 2021 funding details for this protocol or the DECIR firefighters, it is important to note that AMAL is responsible for overseeing civil protection and firefighting strategies. For precise figures and official announcements, one should refer to AMAL documents or Portuguese government civil protection reports.

The Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL) plans to enhance the financing of the Special Rural Firefighting Device (DECIR) this year due to the protocol aimed at improving firefighting efforts during peak tourist seasons. Specifically, the National Civil Protection Authority will give €75 per day to each firefighter, while the Algarve municipalities will contribute a collective sum of €883,920.
