In Latvia, holiday travelers on the A8 Jelgava highway, A2 Vidzeme highway, and A11 Rucava highway should be prepared for traffic restrictions and longer travel times due to ongoing construction works and traffic light restrictions.

As of August 2025, there is no centralized, publicly accessible visual map specifically covering holiday restrictions on these main national roads. Travelers need to consult various sources for comprehensive traffic management during holidays, including official State Roads Latvia announcements, Latvian Police traffic updates, local municipality notices for road events or construction, and real-time navigation apps that may integrate such data.

The Jelgava highway (A8) from Dalbe to the bridge over the Vircava River has up to three traffic lights, a speed limit of 70 and 50 km/h, and an estimated crossing time of up to one hour. Construction works on this section will continue, resulting in ongoing traffic restrictions. LVC, the Latvian Road Traffic Safety Directorate, advises against driving through red traffic lights during construction.

The Jelgava highway (A8) from Jaunolaine to Riga also has a speed limit of 70 and 50 km/h, with an estimated crossing time of 40 minutes. Similarly, the Vidzeme highway (A2) from the turn to Cesis (P20) to Ridzene has up to seven traffic lights, a local detour, speed limits of 70 and 50 km/h, and an estimated crossing time of 45 minutes.

Along the Rucava highway (A11) from Liepaja to Bernati, there is road narrowing in some places and the introduction of two temporary traffic lights. The entire section takes 20 minutes to cross. LVC has reduced the number of temporary traffic lights in some construction sections during holidays, but most remain in place.

Travelers should expect longer travel times due to these restrictions. LVC is reminding drivers to adhere to road rules during the construction period and urging people to follow road rules during construction works.

For precise, up-to-date information close to holiday periods, checking the Latvian State Roads website or local traffic news is recommended. A map of traffic restrictions can be found on the Latvian State Roads website. However, as of now, no publicly available detailed maps specifically showing traffic restrictions on main national roads in Latvia during holidays have been found.

The construction works in progress on the A8 Vidzeme highway industry could potentially affect finances as longer travel times might require additional fuel expenditure and time spent away from work. Meanwhile, travelers using the A11 Rucava highway for transportation may find navigating through temporary traffic lights challenging due to ongoing construction.
