APAC Cybersecurity M&A Slows in 2022 Amidst Market Uncertainties
The cybersecurity industry in the Asia-Pacific region experienced a slowdown in M&A activity in 2022, with a 12% decrease in deals compared to the previous year. This downturn was largely due to recession fears and volatile stock market conditions, leading acquirers to review their strategies.
The APAC cybersecurity sector had seen fluctuating M&A activity in recent years, peaking in 2020 with 62 deals announced. This high volume was driven by the increased reliance on digital infrastructure and remote work due to the pandemic. However, the number of deals decreased to 50 in 2021 and further to 44 in 2022.
In 2022, serial acquirers in the region, such as Tesserent Limited, slowed down their M&A activity. This was primarily due to increased market uncertainties, rising interest rates, and regulatory challenges impacting deal-making.
