Authorities remove school bus with noticeable flaws from Kaiserslautern
A Regionalbus Westpfalz GmbH school bus, similar to a Flixbus, has been removed from service in Kaiserslautern due to multiple mechanical problems. The bus, which was driven to a workshop under police escort, was found to have several issues, including a leaking steering gear, a leaking turn signal, and a suspension system that is leaking.
One of the most concerning issues is a deep crack on the tire of the front axle, which has exposed the inner lining. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident. However, the defective condition of the bus has led to additional concerns.
For instance, a loose piece of metal on the driver's side has been scraping against the tire, and the exhaust system is missing a piece, allowing smoke to enter the engine compartment. Furthermore, the compartment containing the first aid kit and the warning triangle is locked, and the key is missing.
The police will conduct a thorough check of the school bus before it is allowed to drive again. The damage to the bus must be repaired before it can be put back into service, ensuring the safety of the students it is intended to transport. The exact cause of the mechanical issues is still under investigation.
