BAIC BluePark Bets on Arcfox for Turnaround, BJEV Sales Surge
BAIC BluePark is shifting its focus to the Arcfox brand for a turnaround, with two models, the Arcfox α-T SUV and Arcfox α-S sedan, in the pipeline. The company has also announced price adjustments for all models starting May 1, 2023, due to increasing raw material costs and reduced NEV subsidies.
BJEV, a subsidiary of BAIC BluePark, saw a significant increase in sales in March 2023. It sold 5,735 units, marking a 24.8% rise from March 2022 and a staggering 354% increase from February 2023. This strong performance comes after BJEV produced 2,703 units in the first quarter of 2023 and 1,019 units in March alone, a 240% increase from March 2022.
BJEV's success is a stark contrast to BAIC BluePark's overall sales, which dropped from 150,600 units in 2019 to 25,914 units in 2020. Despite this, BJEV has a proven track record, having been the top seller of pure electric vehicles in China for seven consecutive years from 2013 to 2019.
BAIC BluePark is pinning its hopes on the Arcfox brand for a revival, with new models and price adjustments set to take effect from May 1, 2023. Meanwhile, BJEV's strong sales performance in March 2023 suggests a positive outlook for the company's electric vehicle offerings.
