Bain & Company Shakes Up Leadership in Germany and Austria

Christina Ellringmann, a long-time veteran of management consulting firm Bain & Company, will take over as Managing Partner of the firm's operations in Germany and Austria, effective November 1, 2025. Walter Sinn, who has been at the helm for eleven years, will step down and assume the role of Chairman in the region.

Ellringmann, holding a PhD in business administration, first joined Bain & Company in 2002 and became a partner in 2012. Currently leading the insurance practice group in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, she is also a member of the "Compensation and Promotion Committees." According to the firm, the region she will oversee is a crucial global market.

Under Sinn's leadership, Bain's revenue and employee numbers in the DACH region have more than tripled since he took the reins in June 2014. The firm added new offices in Berlin and Vienna during his tenure, and he was appointed to the Global Board of Directors in 2019. He will continue to lead important customer projects and set strategic directions in his new role as Chairman.

Bain & Company competes with McKinsey & Company and the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in the management consulting market, but it is the smallest of the three firms in terms of revenue and employee numbers. Global market size reached approximately USD 303 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.27% through 2032. Bain & Company's revenue in 2023 is estimated to be $7.1 billion, with a global workforce of 19,000.

While specific expansion plans for 2025 are not available for McKinsey & Company, its ongoing investments in private markets suggest steady growth in key European regions such as Central Europe. Boston Consulting Group (BCG), on the other hand, is planning to make a high three-digit number of new hires in Central Europe, with the majority in Germany. As part of BCG's aggressive global expansion strategy, it is leveraging its broad presence to offer clients extensive cross-border expertise and access to diverse industries.

In summary, Bain & Company is preparing for a management transition in Germany and Austria as Christina Ellringmann takes over from Walter Sinn. Simultaneously, the firm remains a significant player in the growing management consulting market, competing with McKinsey & Company and the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Each firm has its distinct strategic approach to growth and expansion in Europe, catering to specific market demands and opportunities.

Christina Ellringmann, with her extensive experience in business and leadership roles within the industry, will oversee Bain & Company's operations in Germany and Austria, driving the firm's strategic finance decisions and ensuring ongoing growth in a crucial global market. Meanwhile, the management consulting market, including Bain & Company, McKinsey & Company, and the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), continues to exhibit significant growth, particularly in Europe, where firms are implementing unique strategies to expand their presence and offer clients extensive cross-border expertise in various industries.
