Barclays has made several significant moves to bolster its Financial Sponsors division, a part of its Investment Banking business. Neel Laungani has joined the bank as the APAC Head of Financial Sponsors, based in Hong Kong.

Laungani brings over three decades of industry experience to his new role, having held senior positions at Standard Chartered Bank, Lehman Brothers, Credit Suisse, and most recently, Deutsche Bank. In his new position, he will be instrumental in achieving Barclays' priorities, working with private equity firms and investment funds.

Jason Short has also been appointed as a Managing Director within the Financial Sponsors division at Barclays. Isobel van Daesdonk and Scott Willard have been named Managing Directors in the Americas within the same division. The specifics of a recent reorganization of APAC IB at Barclays are not detailed, but these appointments are part of this restructuring.

Avinash Thakur, APAC Head of Investment Banking at Barclays, commented on Laungani's appointment. Thakur stated that Barclays is a top five global Financial Sponsors franchise, with global reach and sector depth. He also mentioned that growing advisory and ECM activities with sponsor clients is a key priority for Barclays.

Christian Oberle, the global head of Financial Sponsors at Barclays, will oversee the division. In H1 2025, Laungani, in his new role, advised several notable private equity firms and investment funds, including KKR, Carlyle Group, and Blackstone.

Barclays reported £1.2 billion in investment banking revenues for H1 2025, marking a 1% year-on-year increase. The bank's Financial Sponsors division is expected to play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing this growth.

These appointments and the reorganization at Barclays are significant steps towards strengthening its position in the global financial market. The bank continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing top-tier services to its clients in the private equity and investment fund sectors.
