Kevin Durant Joins Paris Saint-Germain as Minority Owner

In a significant move, basketball superstar Kevin Durant has expanded his sports investment portfolio by acquiring a minority stake in Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), France's largest soccer club. The investment, made through his media and investment company, Boardroom, is reportedly worth approximately $125.8 million.

Durant's involvement with PSG dates back to August 2024, when his company became connected to the club through Arctos Partners, a sports-focused US private equity group that holds a minority stake in PSG. Arctos Partners, known for its investments in multiple sports franchises, also owns a 12.5% stake in PSG, which it purchased at a $4.3 billion valuation at the end of last year.

However, Durant's special vehicle investment setup keeps him from holding any part of Arctos' NBA assets, ensuring compliance with league rules. The report does not mention any other American star athletes investing in sports clubs similar to Durant's investments in Philadelphia Union, Brooklyn Aces, or Gotham FC.

PSG remains majority owned by Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), and Durant's new direct stake aligns him closely with QSI. This move signals Durant's intent to be a key player in the club's growth, particularly as PSG looks to expand its multi-sport empire, including basketball.

Meanwhile, Durant's investments in Philadelphia Union, Brooklyn Aces, and Gotham FC are separate from his investment in Paris Saint-Germain. He used his investment arm, Boardroom Sports Holdings, to acquire a stake in the Major League Soccer club Philadelphia Union and the 2023 NSWL champions Gotham FC. Durant also purchased a stake in Major League Pickleball club Brooklyn Aces.

Other American athletes have also ventured into European soccer clubs. Russell Westbrook has acquired a stake in Leeds United, while J.J. Watt has recently acquired a stake in Burnley. Tom Brady has an investment in Birmingham City. LeBron James, a Team USA teammate of Durant, is a limited partner at Fenway Sports Group (Liverpool).

The report does not provide information about any potential conflicts with NBA rules regarding Durant's investments in sports clubs outside of the NBA or any investments made by Qatar Sports Investments in Philadelphia Union, Brooklyn Aces, or Gotham FC.

As Durant continues to diversify his sports investments, he joins the ranks of athletes turning their professional success into strategic business ventures.

  1. Kevin Durant's media and investment company, Boardroom, has ventured into the world of finance by investing in the commerce sector, purchasing a minority stake in Paris Saint-Germain, a renowned sports club.
  2. Durant's investment in sports-betting might not be limited to basketball, as Paris Saint-Germain looks to expand its multi-sport empire, including basketball.
  3. In addition to his investment in Paris Saint-Germain, Durant has also invested in other sports clubs, such as the Major League Soccer club Philadelphia Union, the 2023 NSWL champions Gotham FC, and the Major League Pickleball club Brooklyn Aces.
