Belarus' child support system is structured to provide for children's needs. The minimum amounts are tied to the living wage, starting at 50% for one child, increasing to 75% for two, and reaching 100% for three or more. These percentages are of the non-custodial parent's income per month.
Prenuptial agreements can set child support amounts, but they must be drafted before marriage. Once dissolved, they cannot be created. The court can adjust payments based on changes in the paying parent's circumstances, such as having other minor children or being an invalid of the 1st or 2nd group.
Parents can establish child support through various means, including notarial agreements, prenuptial agreements, or parenting plans. Both parents must agree, and the amounts cannot be lower than the legally set minimums. If parents cannot agree, the court can intervene, with retroactive payments possible if previous attempts were unsuccessful.
In exceptional cases, 1st and 2nd group invalids may be exempt from paying child support. However, the amount can only be reduced for capable parents who genuinely cannot pay.
