Oulton Park Gold Cup Auction Yields Impressive Results
The Oulton Park Gold Cup, a historic motorsport meeting held at the Cheshire venue, was the backdrop for Hampson Auctions' latest sale on July 27, 2025. The event attracted a diverse selection of vehicles, from no-reserve bargains to prestigious, premium brands.
One of the standout vehicles was a Ford Anglia 105E 'restomod', fitted with a 2.1-litre Pinto and twin Weber 48 DCOEs. This unique creation changed hands for £11,025. Another notable Ford was a 1987 Ford Capri 280 'Brooklands', which fetched £23,625.
Several 1970s stalwarts were also sold during the auction. A Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000, presented in full period Rothmans livery and boasting an outstanding specification, sold without reserve for £30,375. Another notable vehicle was a 1978 Aston Martin V8 Series 4 'Oscar India', which had been with its vendor for nearly three decades and was offered with no reserve, achieving £55,125.
Fords were a significant part of the auction, with several models included in the sale. However, the top-selling vehicles were not limited to British marques. A 1976 Ferrari 308 Vetroresina, one of only 154 right-hand-drive examples, sold for £73,125. An imported Toyota MR2 Turbo from 1994 was also sold for £9562, and a 1995 Rover Mini Cooper, imported from Japan with JDM luxuries, fetched £7875.
An XJ40-based Jaguar XJR TWR was sold for £3600, and an older example of the Toyota Celica ST162 from 1987 was sold for £4050, having covered 52,000 miles. A rare Suzuki Swift GTI from 1989 was sold for £5625, and an oddball vehicle, a Yamaha R1-powered Bedford Rascal, was sold for £4725.
A 1988 Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet was sold for £8775, and a 1994 Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9 with 45,000 miles was sold for £20,812. Over 80% of the lots in the auction were sold, representing a very robust result.
However, not all vehicles found new owners. Some Bentleys such as the 1950 Bentley Mk VI Roadster and 1997 Bentley Continental R went unsold though had high estimates. A 2007 Bentley Continental GTC and a 2004 Bentley Continental GT also failed to find buyers.
These results highlight a mix of prestigious classic sports cars and notable British marques, reflecting the auction's historic racing atmosphere and diverse vehicle selection at Oulton Park. The auction was one of the highlights of the event, adding to the enjoyment of the Oulton Park Gold Cup.
