In the heart of Dresden, several significant changes have been taking place over the past year. One of the most notable developments is the closure and eventual demolition of the Carolabrücke, which necessitated the immediate closure of the street and the Elberadweg back in November 2024.

The demolition of Carolabrücke has now been completed, marking the first step towards its reconstruction. The construction road from Carolaplatz to Königsufer will soon be dismantled, further easing the traffic flow in the area.

Meanwhile, traffic has been rerouted upstream on the Elbe. Initially, this was for motor vehicles, but cyclists have also been rerouted in both directions since then. The Elberadweg on the Neustaedter side has been closed since July 9 due to work on the Albertbrücke.

However, there is some good news for commuters. The reopening of the Terrassenstrasse has relieved traffic in the city center, making around 70 parking spaces for cars and 22 bus parking spaces available again. The roadway and sidewalks on the Terrassenstrasse have been renewed, and asphalt, markings, and lighting have been updated.

The bicycle path under Albertbrücke is now free again, and cyclists have been using a detour via Sarrasani and Köpckestraße since last Friday. The reopening of the Elberadweg on the other side of the Elbe is scheduled for October 2, 2025.

The city is closely monitoring the traffic situation, particularly at the Marienbrücke, due to regular backups since the collapse of the Carolabrücke. Data on the traffic situation and travel times are being collected to evaluate the effects of the reopening of the Terrassenstrasse.

Baubürgermeister Stephan Kühn (Grüne) announced that the Elberadweg should be passable again starting October 2, 2025. The Terrassenufer in Dresden's old town is now passable in all directions for motor vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians.

Lastly, the Goethe-Institute is urgently looking for guest rooms and apartments for its international course participants due to the ongoing construction in the city. As the city continues to grow and change, it's essential to find solutions to accommodate everyone, from commuters to tourists and students.
