The bigwigs of Moreirense FC are laying down some serious dough for their squad's future! A whopping €15.8 million is set to be invested, with €10 million allocated for the expansion of their academy and the remainder earmarked for the main football team competing in Portugal's I Liga.
The academy upgrade includes two additional natural football pitches, one with a seating capacity of 1,500 to 2,000 spectators and a main building designed to accommodate 52 young players. The said facilities are projected to be ready by early 2026 and 2027, respectively.
President Victor Magalhães, heading the club since '08 and the SAD's board since '13, is the mastermind behind this ambitious project. Nestled on the beautiful grounds of Quinta da Devesa, the academy already boasts two natural pitches, a synthetic one, and a building for training.
A new stadium with seating for 10,000 spectators is planned on another piece of the 156,000 square meters owned by Moreirense, closer to their Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas Stadium. The new stadium will also have 500 private and 3,000 public parking spaces.
Despite the upgrades, Moreirense will continue using their current stadium for training and games, according to Magalhães. The male U15, U17, and U19 teams will also fall under the umbrella of Bill Foley's fund, which owns teams such as Bournemouth and Auckland FC.
With the recent sale of the majority of the SAD to the British group, Magalhães expresses optimism for Moreirense's longevity and manageability. "The Moreirense has two key dates: its foundation in 1938 and 2025, with this significant milestone. This elevates our competitiveness, fostering creativity and renewal, ensuring the club's survival," he shared.
