Blockades will persist until end of November
Lemme Spill the Beans:
Starting June 16, 2025, parts of the U1 line around Volksdorf station will be intermittently closed due to extensive construction work, lasting approximately until the end of November. Don't worry, a shuttle bus service will be provided for affected passengers.
To minimize inconveniences for travelers, construction will only affect brief sections of the U1 line at a time. During individual shutdowns, there might be service adjustments and altered departure times, especially north of the Berne station. You can get the latest connections and departure times via the HHV journey planner.
These are the affected sections of the U1 line that will be periodically closed:
- June 16 - July 20: U Volksdorf - U Ahrensburg West
- July 21 - 27: U Volksdorf - U Großhansdorf
- July 28 - August 18: U Volksdorf - U Buchenkamp
- August 19 - October 8: U Volksdorf - U Ohlstedt
- October 9 - 12: U Volksdorf - U Ohlstedt and U Volksdorf - U Buchenkamp
- October 13 - November 30: U Berne - U Volksdorf
Behind the Scenes
Construction work is the reason for these shutdowns, including refurbishments of several bridges surrounding Volksdorf. Bridges on the Ahrensburger Weg and Lerchenberg will be replaced, both being over 100 years old. Additionally, bridges on the Farmer Landstraße and Meiendorfer Way will be thoroughly renovated. Furthermore, station improvements, such as renovating the platform and portions of the ticket hall at U Volksdorf, are planned.
