BMAS Inspections in Brandenburg Uncover Illegal Employment and Benefits Fraud
The Federal Ministry for Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS) recently conducted inspections in Brandenburg's eastern region. On June 16, 2025, teams verified employee registrations, social security usage, work permits, and minimum wage compliance. The operation involved 65 inspectors and led to further investigations and arrests.
Inspectors from the Financial Control Black Work of the Main Customs Office Frankfurt (Oder) questioned 216 people across various construction sites. They initiated 4 business records inspections, resulting in 10 criminal and 17 administrative offence proceedings. Most cases involved violations of the Residence Act or illegal employment.
At a larger site north of Berlin, 15 workers fled upon the inspectors' arrival. However, 4 Moldovan citizens were found working illegally after entering Germany visa-free for tourism. They were handed over to the Federal Police for further action. Ongoing investigations are required in 40 cases.
The BMAS inspections in Brandenburg uncovered numerous violations, leading to criminal and administrative proceedings. The operation aimed to ensure proper employee registration, prevent social security fraud, check work permits, and enforce minimum wage compliance. Further investigations are underway.
