Bremen Launches City Development Company to Drive Large-Scale Projects
Bremen's Senate has launched plans to establish a 'news' company, aiming to drive large-scale projects and strategically important property development in the city's districts. The 'news' company, set to launch in summer 2024, will be led by Andreas Heyer, currently heading WFB Wirtschaftsförderung Bremen GmbH.
The 'news' company will operate under the guidance of two entities: a city development company and a new holding company. It will be 'in-house capable' from a procurement law perspective, allowing it to manage projects independently. The first project slated for the 'news' company is the area surrounding the Mitte parking garage.
The 'news' company's mandate includes strategic acquisitions of properties, their development, and subsequent marketing. It will receive necessary funds through the 2024/2025 double budget. The Bremen Senate has initiated this establishment, with the city providing the 'news' company with appropriate capital equipment. The goal is for the 'news' company to generate profits following an initial start-up phase.
