Bright Outlook for Ustersbach Brewery: Future Prospects Assessed with Confidence
Life as 2025 Rolls: Ustersbach Beer Shines in Quality Tests, Embracing Sustainability
Stepping into 2025, Ustersbach beers continue their reign, earning top scores in DLG quality tests across taste, foam, and shelf life. The prestigious federal honor prize was presented to Stephanie and Luis Schmid at the federal capital on May 20th, 2025, by the newly appointed Federal Minister of Agriculture, Alois Rainer.
Thomas Burkhardt, head of the DLG drinks department, applauded the importance of quality controls in the food sector, especially considering the questionable products peddled by today's influencers. The celebrations took a sparkling turn as the team embarked on their yearly exploration tour, this year to the Berlin Futurium - one of the city's five most visited museums.
At the Futurium, the Ustersbach team delved into future scenarios surrounding the trilogy of "Human, Nature, and Technology," striking a chord with the brewery's operations. The museum's permanent exhibition echoed Ustersbach's dedication to the field, with the theme of the year, "Treasures of the Future," resonating strongly with the brewery's focus on sustainable resource management.
Stephanie Schmid, CEO of Ustersbach, was adamant about the need to repurpose brewery byproducts like leftover grain and excess yeast for alternative energy production. This inline with the brewery's decades-long endeavor to generate all essential energy on-site, a goal they aim to achieve by wind, solar, and biogas power generation. Luis Schmid, brewing engineering student in Weihenstephan, agreed, emphasizing the significance of setting the right course, though he acknowledged that it wouldn't happen overnight.
Ustersbach's commitment to sustainability extends beyond energy self-sufficiency. They explore strategies like spent grain utilization, advanced wastewater treatment, and heat recovery to minimize waste and harness underutilized resources. Furthermore, the brewery seeks partnerships with technology innovators and educational institutions to drive forward sustainable practices and advancements in the industry.
In the end, Ustersbach's trip to Berlin proved worthwhile, not only for the federal honor prize but also for the renewed commitment to creating a sustainable beer future for all beer enthusiasts.
