Carbon Neutral Office Construction in Bristol Breaks Ground for First Time in Operation

In the heart of Bristol, a significant shift towards sustainable office spaces is underway with the development of the EQ building by CEG. This innovative project, located at 111 Victoria Street, is set to be the city's first Carbon Net Zero building in operation.

Upon completion, expected in February 2023, the EQ building will span 200,000 sq ft, providing a workspace for over 2,000 workers. CEG, with a substantial office development portfolio in Bristol totalling approximately 400,000 sq ft, is at the forefront of this green revolution.

Sustainability is at the heart of the EQ development. The building will operate on all-electric power, fuelled by 100% green electricity. On-site renewable energy will be provided through photovoltaic units on the roof, capable of saving an impressive 25 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.

Water conservation is also a priority, with rainwater recycling systems designed to save 2,000 litres of water per occupant annually. The EQ building will also be connected to Bristol City Council's District Heating Network, further reducing its carbon footprint.

The building's amenities are as impressive as its environmental credentials. A rooftop bar, restaurant, business lounge, fitness suite, and breakout space are just some of the facilities that will be available to occupants. Sustainability extends to transportation, with 32 car spaces equipped with electric charging points and e-bike charging points included.

CEG's commitment to sustainability is not limited to the EQ development. They are also planning the redevelopment and extension of 1000 Aztec West, creating a 79,000 sq ft headquarter office building. The Quorum, another part of CEG's portfolio, has recently been refurbished with a focus on energy efficiency.

The Crescent Centre is another project in CEG's pipeline, with a planning consent granted for its redesign and re-configuration. Aroundtown S.A. is also planning the first new office building development in Bristol to operate with Carbon Net Zero, scheduled for completion in 2025.

Occupiers of the EQ building see this development as a unique opportunity to improve both the office environment and the environment itself. As the way offices are used continues to evolve, there is a growing demand for high-quality, sustainable office spaces, and the EQ development is poised to meet this demand.
