Citi ThankYou Points Transfer Partners and Their Usage Guide [2025]

For those holding the Citi StrataSM Card, Citi Double Cash Card, Citi ThankYou Preferred Card (no longer open to new applicants), and Citi ThankYou Mastercard (no longer open to new applicants), transferring ThankYou Points to Citi's airline and hotel transfer partners offers a better value than redeeming through the travel portal or for statement credits.

The premium card rates are for those who hold either the Citi Strata EliteSM Card, Citi Strata PremierSM Card, or Citi Prestige Card (no longer open to new applicants).

Transferring ThankYou Points

To transfer your points, visit ThankYou.com, hover over the Travel menu option to trigger a dropdown menu, select Points Transfer, find your desired airline and select Transfer Now to start the process. Enter the number of miles you want to transfer, add your frequent flyer number if you haven't already attached it to your ThankYou Points account, agree to the terms and conditions, select Continue, confirm that the details of the transfer are correct and select Confirm to complete the transfer.

Citi ThankYou Points can be combined from different accounts by linking them, but once linked, canceling one of the cards will cause the points earned on that card to have an expiration date.

Top Transfer Partners for Value

  • EVA Air Infinity MileageLands: Unique 1:1 transfer; excellent for business class awards across the Pacific at around 75,000-80,000 miles one-way.
  • JetBlue TrueBlue: Transfer at 1:1 with good value on JetBlue flights (~1.4-1.5 cents per point) and access to partner awards like Qatar Airways business class.

Beyond EVA Air and JetBlue, Citi partners with programs like Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles, Singapore KrisFlyer, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, and hotel programs. Each has its own sweet spots for award redemptions.

Using the Citi Travel Portal

Points can also be redeemed for travel at roughly 1.25 cents per point if you hold eligible Citi cards that offer this benefit. However, this is often less value than transfers to partners. Booking through the Citi ThankYou travel portal will earn airline miles on your flights, serving as a small rebate.

Valuation

Points typically worth around 1.2–1.6 cents each when redeemed via transfer partners, often exceeding the fixed cash redemption values (e.g., gift cards, statement credit, or direct booking).

Special Offers and Tips

  • Citi occasionally runs promotions that provide transfer bonuses between 10% and 30%. These are great opportunities to save some points when transferring points to complete an award booking.
  • When booking economy tickets, it's important to compare the costs between booking through the Citi ThankYou travel portal and booking directly with the airline.
  • Cathay Pacific's Asia Miles program can be used to book American Airlines flights if Saver level award space is available.
  • Singapore Airlines' KrisFlyer program can be used to book United Airlines flights if Saver Award space is available.
  • When booking through the Citi ThankYou travel portal, the cost shown in points (1 cent per point) is added to the cash price.
  • Transferring ThankYou Points to Oneworld or Star Alliance partners can be used to book award tickets on American Airlines or United Airlines, respectively.
  • Using Citi ThankYou Points for gift cards, merchandise, or other non-travel redemptions generally does not provide good value.

In summary, if your goal is to maximise travel value, prioritise transferring Citi ThankYou Points to airline partners and redeeming for award flights, especially premium cabins like business class on EVA Air. Using points for travel bookings through Citi’s portal or for statement credits offers convenience but usually less value per point.
