Coalition Sues EPA Over 'Solar for All' Program Cancellation

Environmental groups and solar industry stakeholders have banded together to sue the EPA over the cancellation of the 'Solar for All' program. The lawsuit, filed on Monday in Rhode Island, challenges the Trump administration's decision to axe the solar energy initiative that aimed to benefit low-income communities in the state.

The coalition of plaintiffs includes labor unions, nonprofits, solar installers, and homeowners from various states. Among them are the Rhode Island AFL-CIO, Rhode Island Center for Justice, and Solar United Neighbors. Companies like Energy Independent Solutions, Black Sun Light Sustainability, Sunpath Solar, and 2KB Energy Services, along with homeowner Anh Nguyen, have also joined the suit.

The lawsuit contends that the EPA unlawfully terminated grants intended for low-income communities under the 'Solar for All' program. The initiative, which received $7 billion in funding under the Inflation Reduction Act, aimed to make solar energy more accessible and affordable for these communities in Rhode Island.

The plaintiffs hope to reinstate the 'Solar for All' program, arguing that its termination hinders efforts to combat climate change and provides unequal access to clean energy in Rhode Island. The case is ongoing in the federal court in Rhode Island.
