Commission in Europe gives green light for sale of Rimi Baltic

The Salling Group, a European retail conglomerate, is set to take over Rimi's stores in the Baltic countries in a deal that encompasses more than 300 stores and involves over 11,000 employees. The transaction, which includes an e-commerce platform, warehouses, and distribution centres across the Baltics, is scheduled to close by June 2nd of this year.

Anders Hagh, the President and CEO of the Salling Group, confirmed that no changes to the Rimi brand are currently planned. The final phase of the transaction will focus on finalising the financial processes, subject to regulatory clearance.

The acquisition requires notification and review by the European Commission due to its European dimension. The deal is approaching its final phase, and once completed, it will mark a significant expansion for the Salling Group in the Baltic region.

Mr. Hagh expressed his excitement about the upcoming acquisition, stating, "We are looking forward to welcoming Rimi's employees and customers to the Salling Group family. This acquisition will enable us to strengthen our position as a leading retailer in the Baltics and further expand our e-commerce capabilities."

The Salling Group, based in Denmark, operates various retail chains across Scandinavia, including Føtex, Bilka, and Netto. With this acquisition, the company aims to consolidate its presence in the Baltic region and further expand its retail footprint.

The transaction is subject to regulatory clearance, and once approved, it is expected to be completed by June 2, 2025. The Salling Group remains committed to maintaining the Rimi brand's identity and providing quality products and services to its customers in the Baltic countries.
