Committee Member Asaja Urges Page to Advocate for Farmers' and Stockbreeders' Financial Security in the Committee of Regions

In the heart of Spain, the Minister for Agriculture, Alois Rainer, finds himself at the centre of negotiations over the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) budget, as demanded by Asaja, a prominent agricultural association.

Asaja, expressing concerns that the European agricultural model could be at risk due to cuts in the CAP and commercial policies, has rejected the CAP budget being negotiated solely within the framework of the Single Fund in the Finance Committee. They believe that the funds of the new CAP should primarily be directed towards professional agriculture and livestock farming in Europe.

The association has also called for the need for the CAP to focus on generational renewal, cessation of agricultural activity in the elderly, and halting rural depopulation. To discuss these matters, Asaja will meet with working groups in September and October.

The working groups on Finance and Agriculture will separately address the Single Fund and the CAP. Asaja has emphasized that none of the measures applied in the new CAP should entail a reduction in the income of producers. They also agree with Commissioner Hansen's reflection on the use of the second pillar of the CAP funds in Europe.

Asaja has expressed its rejection of the proposals for the future of the CAP and is totally opposed to losing any euro of the community budget currently available for the CAP in Europe. They have also urged the Ministers of Agriculture of the European Union to actively participate in defining the CAP budget.

In addition to the CAP, the association has raised concerns about the OCM (specific context not provided) as a topic to be discussed in the Agriculture working group. They warn that cuts in the CAP budget and ineffective measures for agriculture jeopardize food sovereignty in Europe.

Meanwhile, Emiliano García-Page, the President of Castilla-La Mancha, will participate in the Committee of the European Committee of the Regions in Denmark. Asaja has called on García-Page to defend the interests of farmers and livestock farmers in the region of Europe.
