German Luxury Electric SUVs Square Off: BMW iX3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology to Debut at IAA Mobility Show

The electric vehicle (EV) market is about to witness an exciting new chapter as two German luxury brands, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, prepare to debut their electric SUVs at the upcoming IAA Mobility Show in Munich. Both the BMW iX3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology will compete globally, including in the United States, marking a significant expansion for these models.

While the old iX3 and EQC were never sold in the United States, the updated versions of both electric SUVs will be available there. The BMW iX3, revealed on the same day, boasts a 17.9-inch infotainment screen, which is smaller than the Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology's massive 39.1-inch display. Mercedes-Benz calls this display the latest evolution of its Hyperscreen. This single panel stretches almost the entire width of the dashboard, featuring matrix backlight technology with over 1,000 individual LEDs.

The Hyperscreen allows for the adjustment of two sections simultaneously via built-in sliders, offering a seamless and intuitive user experience. However, only the pricier trims of the Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology will have the giant screen as standard. Cheaper models are likely to have smaller, separate displays.

BMW's iX3's infotainment system includes the iDrive X, and an optional 3D head-up display is available. On the other hand, the Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology merges all displays into one, marking a departure from the brand's previous use of either two or three separate displays.

As the German car brand Mercedes-Benz introduced the new EQ-Technology GLC at the IAA Mobility Show, the German luxury battle is heating up in the electric segment. BMW is working on an i3 sedan, while Mercedes-Benz is preparing a C-Class EV, a separate model from the GLC with EQ Technology.

The BMW iX3 will have a center screen and Panoramic Vision projection as standard across the lineup from 2026. The 2026 model year marks a significant leap forward for the BMW iX3, positioning it as a formidable competitor in the electric SUV market.

The BMW iX3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology will share the spotlight at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich, promising an exciting display of the future of luxury electric vehicles.
