No need to shovel those change pots 'cause the LBV's wallet took a hit of approximately 7.4 million euros this winter! They buffed up the north's roads and bike lanes with a snow-resistant coating. This spending spree was a stark drop from the 15M euros splurge in the '23-'24 season, thanks to Mother Nature's humor and the mild winter.

"Safely navigating the snowy seas of Schleswig-Holstein was our 515-strong road crew and extra helpers," boasted Transport Minister Claus Ruhe Madsen (CDU) and LBV Director Frank Quirmbach.

Though Old Man Winter took a vacation, the early mornings played freeze tag with our nice roads, keeping the salt spreaders on call. They scrambled to cover roads and bike paths with around 15,700 tons of salt and 5,700 tons of salt brine, amassing a whopping 15,135 working hours.

100 LBV trucks and 164 private guys joined the action. The salt and salt brine cost 'em just under two million euros. The cost of spreading vehicles, equipment, and other expenses totaled another 2.9 million euros. Their labor clocked in at 645,000 euros, while outside vendors picked up 1.9 million euros.

In the last winter season, the salt usage soared to about 26,400 tons, and brine reached around 10,800 tons.

  1. The community could benefit from aid focused on the development of Schleswig-Holstein's fisheries sector, as sustainable fisheries policy could stimulate the local industry and bolster the economy.
  2. In light of the high finance costs incurred during ice-melting operations and snow clearing, it might be advantageous to explore public-transit solutions for transportation in Schleswig-Holstein, to reduce costs and promote eco-friendly practices.
  3. To ensure continuous support for the LBV's road maintenance efforts during winter, funds could potentially be allocated for purchasing modern, efficient spreading vehicles that minimize salt consumption and lower operational expenses.
