County Borken Launches Senior Cycling Initiative for Safer Roads
County Borken and the local police have launched a new initiative to promote cycling among seniors. The senior cycling concept, part of their preventive work, kicked off recently in Gronau with an inaugural event. Twelve seniors joined police officers for a cycle, focusing on road safety and enjoyment.
The event, attended by County Commissioner Dr. Kai Zwicker, police officials, and cycling experts, marked the beginning of regular cycling activities for seniors. Dr. Zwicker stressed the importance of cycling for mobility in old age and the emphasis on safety and prevention.
Police officers shared valuable tips with participants, covering behavior at intersections and roundabouts, correct cycle path use, and equipment safety. The group size was limited to twelve to ensure personalized attention and route guidance towards accident hotspots.
The senior cycling concept is set to continue, with upcoming dates for 2025 to be announced soon and 2026's schedule to be published at the beginning of the year. This initiative aims to foster cycling among seniors, enhancing their mobility and safety on the roads.
