Cricket Superstar Virat Kohli Puts Money into Global Bowling Tournament

Veteran Indian cricket star Virat Kohli ventures into a new arena, investing in the World Bowling League (WBL). Kohli joins Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts, who became an investor in the WBL in March. The financial specifics of Kohli's participation are yet to be disclosed.

The WBL plans to modernize bowling, adopting a fan-driven, progressive approach to create a more dynamic and inclusive spectator sport. Kohli, an avid bowler who started bowling at the age of 11, will leverage his worldwide recognition to help promote the league.

As one of the most followed athletes on Instagram, Kohli's participation is expected to boost the WBL's brand awareness. The WBL aims to host 12 to 15 events annually, with tournaments in locations ranging from Singapore to Japan.

The WBL is owned by League Sports Co., a Dubai-based sports tech holding company that seeks to push boundaries in sports and entertainment. Plans include innovative playing rules, technology solutions, and distinctive venues to provide a new-age look for the sport.

League Sports Co. CEO Adi K Mishra and Kohli have previously partnered in Team Blue Rising of the E1 Series, the world's first all-electric powerboating competition.

The WBL's strategy involves modernized gameplay, global events, high-profile investors, enhanced spectator experience, gender balance, and expansion plans. The league anticipates including eight to twelve franchises in its inaugural year, with further expansion planned within five years.

The WBL aims to reinvigorate bowling as a global sport, capitalizing on the influence of its investors to inspire a new generation of fans.
