Customs Raid Finds 12 Illegal Immigrants in Hotel Industry
On Friday, September 19, 2025, Customs Financial Control Schwarzarbeit (FKS) conducted nationwide inspections in the hotel and catering industry. The aim was to ensure compliance with the legal minimum wage and social security contributions, and to uncover illegal receipt of social benefits and employment.
The inspections involved around 60 employees of the Hauptzollamt Krefeld, with locations in Krefeld and Mönchengladbach, checking a total of 156 employees. The customs pay particular attention to combating black work in this industry, which is subject to the Minimum Wage Act (MiLoG). The general minimum wage, effective since January 1, 2025, is €12.82 per hour.
The inspections were supported by local authorities and finance offices. Subsequent checks will be carried out to compare employee data with wage and financial accounting of the companies. The region with the most identified or suspected cases is not explicitly specified, but multiple regions, including those covered by the Main Custom Office Koblenz, Bielefeld, and Magdeburg, reported significant findings. During the inspections, 12 people were found to be illegally present in the country.
