Customs Seize 8,424 ml E-Liquid, 2,259 Cans of Snus on A6 Motorway
Customs officials in Saarbrücken have made a significant seizure on the A6 motorway. An office 365 van was found carrying 8,424 ml of e-liquid and 2,259 cans of snus, both prohibited in Germany. The 54-year-old German driver was suspected of evading tobacco tax, with approximately €2,190 in taxes levied against him.
The driver initially claimed to be delivering household goods to shops in Saarbrücken. However, a thorough inspection of the van revealed the contraband hidden among the goods in the loading area. The driver is now under criminal investigation for tax evasion. Snus, a smokeless tobacco product, is banned in Germany due to its health risks, especially for children and young people. Similarly, the e-liquid was found in disposable e-cigarettes, which are also restricted. Both the e-liquid and snus have been seized by the customs office.
The case is now in the hands of the public prosecutor's office, which will decide whether to press charges against the driver. This seizure highlights the ongoing efforts by customs officials to combat the illegal trade of tobacco products and e-liquids in Germany.
