Daily excursions in Moscow surpass the threshold of one million.

In the heart of Moscow, the capital city of Russia, electric bus trips have dramatically surged to a whopping 1 million daily rides, as per Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.

"Since 2018, we've been on a mission to reduce our environmental footprint by introducing eco-friendly vehicles," Liksutov declared. "With this strategy, Moscow has ascended to the top spot in Europe for the highest number of electric buses, with over 745 million trips taken so far."

With over 2350 electrifying rides cruising the city streets, Moscow boasts the most extensive fleet of electric buses in Europe, featuring models from KAMAZ and LiAZ. These environmentally-friendly vehicles service 210 routes, with a staggering third of them debuting in 2024 alone. Last year, an additional 800 electric-powered buses were added to the fleet, and it's anticipated that almost the entire Mosgortrans fleet will transform into electric buses within the next ten years.

Now, you might be wondering about the safety and comfort of these electric buses. Rigorous safety standards are met, ensuring a smooth and reliable ride. Low floors cater to passengers with mobility issues, while retractable ramps, driver call buttons, bike storage, stroller space, and large luggage areas add to the convenience. Add to that digital validators for fare payment, cameras for passenger safety, air curtains for temperature control, USB charging ports, real-time stop displays, smart lighting, and you've got yourself an advanced, eco-friendly transportation solution.

The electric buses undergo maintenance at 12 Mosgortrans facilities, including the colossal "Krasnaya Pahra" in the Troitsky and Novomoskovsky Administrative District, supplying routes for "New Moscow." The "Mitino" park opened in 2023, expanding routes to 20 districts of the capital and two nearby towns in the Moscow region. The innovative "Saltikovka" electric bus park then entered service, providing routes on the eastern side of Moscow.

In a remarkable move, these electric buses are being maintained under life cycle contracts, ensuring flawless operation for 15 years following their transfer to Mosgortrans. Moscow's commitment to enhancing its public transportation network also includes the commissioning of 200 fast-charging electric buses from Russian manufacturers GAZ and Kamaz, making significant strides toward electrifying the fleet.

As the city of Moscow marches forward with its eco-friendly public transportation evolution, the future looks bright for lessening our carbon footprint and ensuring a more sustainable tomorrow.
