Darmstadt Sprinter Restricted: Police Discontinued Due to Overload
On Monday evening (01.09.), a 3.5-tonne Eastern European Sprinter-class truck, operated by the company "Gün" from Remsfeld / Melsungen, was found overweight on the A5. The actual total weight of the truck was 6300 kilograms, exceeding the permissible weight.
Upon stopping the vehicle, the Hessen police discovered that the driver, a 34-year-old individual, had no records of his driving and rest times. This violation, combined with the overweight truck, led to a prohibition of further travel and an order for the truck to be unloaded on Monday.
The empty weight of the replacement vehicle sent by the company on Tuesday (02.09.) was 3590 kilograms, still exceeding the allowed weight for a 3.5-tonner. The driver added an additional 100 kilograms to the scales, making the vehicle even heavier.
As a result, both the company and the 34-year-old driver face fines in the four-digit range. The license plates were removed, and the case was handed over to the registration office in Darmstadt. The vehicle must undergo a new registration once the prescribed condition is restored and may not be moved in the public traffic area beforehand.
It is concerning to note that companies often deliberately ignore overloading violations during traffic controls. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to weight restrictions and regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.
