In an effort to alleviate traffic congestion, the Senate Administration has announced plans to reduce traffic from the A100 into Elsenstraße to two lanes. This change is set to take effect in the coming years, with the left-turn lane from Markgrafendamm to Alt-Stralau at Elsenbrücke scheduled to close starting in October 2025.

The changes are not limited to lane reductions. The bus-only lane on Elsenstraße and the closure of the left turning lane from Markgrafendamm to Alt-Stralau at Elsenbrücke are part of a larger strategy to improve public transportation. The established bus lane in the direction of Ostkreuz has proven effective, helping buses pass most of Elsen Street without significant delays. The reduced lanes will be used to create a continuous bus-only lane between Am Treptower Park and Puschkinallee.

However, the situation remains difficult in the opposite direction due to the lack of a separate bus lane. To address this, the BVG, Berlin's public transportation provider, is taking operational measures to maintain operations. Adjustments to lines M43 and 194 will be made to bypass traffic jams, ensuring smooth transportation for commuters.

While construction measures are underway, it's important to note that full completion of Elsenbrücke is not expected until 2028. At this point, three lanes per direction will be available. However, experts stress that construction measures alone will not fully utilize future capacities; improvements in traffic light control and management will also be necessary.

Lastly, it's worth mentioning that the western span of Elsenbrücke, originally scheduled for completion in September 2025, will now be handed over in October. These changes are part of a larger initiative to improve traffic flow and public transportation in the Elsenstraße and Elsenbrücke area. Stay tuned for more updates as the project progresses.
