Less Weather-Related Bumper Bashes: Still Huge Bucks in Car Damage - Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland Leading the Pack
Decrease in auto storm damage claims – nonetheless, immense financial losses persist - Decreased vehicular damage during storms leads to millions of vehicles in need of repair
Let's chat about those vehicular dents and smashes caused by ol' Mother Nature! Cars in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland saw a bit less of that action in 2024, thank goodness, according to the German Insurance Association's (GDV) annual report.
In the sweet land of Rhineland-Palatinate, we're talking around 6,500 vehicles getting nicked by storms, hail, and lightning last year, amounting to approximately 18 million euros in damages. On the other side of things, Saarland recorded 1,500 weather-related vehicle damages totaling about five million euros. Compared to 2023 numbers, both federal states saw a considerable drop. In Rhineland-Palatinate, there were around 29,000 weather-related vehicle damages reported, causing damages amounting to 107 million euros. In Saarland, weather-based damages reached 3,000 vehicles, totaling nine million euros.
But before you start breathing a sigh of relief, hold that thought! The GDV, based in Mainz, isn't one to mince words when it comes to warning us about the rising perils of natural disasters across Germany as a whole. Although last year Germany's weather-related damages were at roughly 340,000 cases and 1.3 billion euros, the GDV remains concerned. That's because climate change is making these natural hazards more frequent and fierce, posing a threat not only to our four-wheeled friends but to broader property and infrastructure.
Here's a quick look at what went down:
