Defense firms in Russia to adopt AI technology from local developers, as chosen by Rostec.

Rostec, the Russian state corporation, recently announced that it has chosen AI-driven solutions from domestic developers, notably IT holding T1, for its defense industry companies. T1 offers a diverse array of AI services, ranging from smart recruitment systems to predicting equipment failures and improving technical documentation analysis in the design of advanced defense products.

In the spring, Rostec extended an invitation to domestic software developers to adapt their IT products for defense enterprises. The most impressive adaptations will be promoted for implementation and replication across the corporation. Furthermore, Rostec suggested repurposing existing AI models that have undergone testing in other companies.

Maxim Valin, Rostec's Digital Transformation Director, weighed in on the interest in Russian AI developments from T1, stating that their AI-centric logistics and management service could revolutionize production scheduling and timetables within various holdings, considering available equipment, staff numbers, and contract deadlines. Additionally, the service offers models for recreating a product's electronic structure in PLM based on paper design documentation, digital assistants for engineers, and more— all designed to streamline work processes, boost productivity, and cut costs.

The strong applicant response necessitated extending the deadline for submissions until October. Successful solutions will be incorporated into defense industry enterprises. Prospective applicants can send their proposals to the dedicated email address: [email protected].

As for T1’s specific AI applications for Rostec’s defense sector, details are scarce. However, T1’s innovations may focus on strategic areas like drone swarm management, cybersecurity, data analysis, hacking techniques, or complement other technologies such as anti-drone systems and ISTAR (intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance) technologies. Rostec is also actively involved in creating AI models for military applications, such as managing drone swarms and analyzing data from cyberattacks. AI is also employed in defensive hacking techniques and data analysis for military operations planning.

  1. Rostec is considering incorporating AI models developed by T1, particularly those focused on strategic areas like drone swarm management, cybersecurity, and data analysis, into their defense sector.
  2. In the finance sector, Rostec is also exploring AI-driven solutions from T1, such as their AI-centric logistics and management service, which could streamline work processes, boost productivity, and cut costs, in an effort to optimize production scheduling and timetables within various holdings.
