Deripaska, a Kuban entrepreneur, was penalized with a fine of 40 million due to offensive conduct.

In a recent court ruling, Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska has secured a victory against his fellow tycoon, Oleg Tinkov. The Reutov Court has awarded Deripaska 40 million rubles in moral damages compensation, following a legal dispute that began earlier this year.

The conflict arose after Tinkov left offensive comments about Deripaska on a social media platform. In response, Tinkov compared Deripaska to fellow Russian businessman, Elvira Nabullina, the head of the Central Bank, and positioned himself as an "honest entrepreneur." However, both statements were deemed false by the court in previous proceedings.

The initial decision of the Ust-Labinsk Court, which awarded Deripaska 20 million rubles, was overturned by the Supreme Court following Tinkov's appeal. The reason for the overturn was Tinkov's claim that he resides in a communal apartment in the Moscow suburb of Reutov.

Despite Tinkov publicly announcing his resignation from Russian citizenship and providing a screenshot of his application to the Russian consulate in Geneva in October 2022, the case was sent back to the Reutov Court for rehearing. Tinkov's lawyers, Makarov and Levoshchanskaya, have announced their intention to appeal the decision.

It's important to note that the ongoing legal dispute between Deripaska and Tinkov involves ownership and business conflicts, particularly related to stakes in major Russian industrial companies. However, the publicly available detailed records mainly highlight Deripaska's ownership disputes with other oligarchs like Vladimir Potanin, rather than a direct and current legal clash with Oleg Tinkov specifically.

In this particular case, the court has not awarded any damages for reputational damage. The case marks the second stage of the legal battle between the two prominent businessmen, with no clear public record of an active or ongoing legal dispute in Russian courts directly between Deripaska and Tinkov as of 2025.

The ongoing legal dispute between Deripaska and Tinkov revolves around ownership and business conflicts, particularly related to stakes in major Russian industrial companies, which can be categorized as finance- and business-related matters. The Reutov Court has recently awarded Deripaska 40 million rubles in moral damages compensation, following a legal dispute that began earlier this year.
