DGB Chair Defends Tariff Loyalty Act, Calls for Higher Public Procurement Thresholds

Yasmin Fahimi, chairwoman of the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB), has defended the Federal Tariff Loyalty Act, approved by the federal cabinet in August. She rejects employers' associations' criticism and argues that the act supports collective bargaining autonomy, not interfering with it.

Fahimi has called for high threshold values in public procurement to comply with tariff loyalty. She believes that the state should ensure fair competition, including fair wages, as stated in the parliamentary procedure. The DGB wants to prevent undermining of tariff loyalty through a fair public procurement acceleration law.

Fahimi has criticized the current threshold values for federal tenders, set at 50,000 euros. She warned that these values could allow circumvention of collective bargaining agreements. Despite the ongoing parliamentary discussion about the compatibility of high thresholds for direct awards with tariff compliance, Fahimi did not single out any parties in her statements.

The DGB, led by Yasmin Fahimi, is pushing for high threshold values in public procurement to uphold tariff loyalty. Fahimi argues that the Federal Tariff Loyalty Act supports collective bargaining autonomy and fair competition. The parliamentary discussion continues, with Fahimi warning against undermining tariff loyalty through low threshold values.
