Digital trade development Insight from Oljas Bektenov in Almaty, focusing on the Kaspi.kz digital infrastructure as an illustrative case.

Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov paid a visit to Almaty to inspect the development of digital trade infrastructure at local online supermarket Magnum, part of the fintech company Kaspi.kz. The prime minister's visit emphasized the role of e-commerce in fostering small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and job creation, as per a bank report.

The co-founder and head of Kaspi.kz, Mikhail Lomtadze, disclosed that during the past 3-4 years, Magnum on Kaspi.kz, their online supermarket, has garnered more than 800,000 Kazakh users, with 5.3 million orders made since 2025. The platform offers over 10,000 products, with more than half produced domestically. The investments in this project have surpassed 53 billion tenge, resulting in 4,500 job opportunities, and generating 5 billion tenge in taxes for the national budget.

Lomtadze described Magnum on Kaspi.kz as a service fully integrated within the Kaspi.kz app, catering to the needs of 200,000 families in Almaty who have embraced this service. He explained that 9 out of 10 customers who use the service have left positive ratings, and the company regularly enhances it based on customer feedback.

Currently, there are six Magnum on Kaspi.kz logistics centers across Kazakhstan — in Almaty, Astana, and Shymkent, occupying a combined area of 114,000 square meters. Plans are underway to open four more centers by 2025, in Almaty, Astana, Karaganda, and Aktobe.

In addition to these logistics centers, Lomtadze announced investments worth 14 billion tenge in two state-of-the-art data centers to provide digital services. These data centers are expected to support up to 10,000 transactions per second and serve as the backbone for providing online services to Kazakhs through the Kaspi.kz super app.

Kaspi.kz is a Kazakh fintech company best known for its popular mobile super app. The company's mission revolves around creating innovative products and services that enhance the lives of clients and partners. Kaspi.kz super app integrates leading e-commerce, payment, and financial services in the country, offering its 15 million users convenient online shopping, commission-free payments and transfers, personal finance management, tickets, travel packages, and access to popular government services.

For businesses, Kaspi.kz introduced Kaspi Pay, now used by approximately 700,000 Kazakh entrepreneurs, offering services such as secure business financing, payment acceptance, advertising campaigns, tax payments, connection to e-commerce and delivery platforms, and nationwide product sales.
