Discount of £1500 on electric vehicles from Renault, Nissan, Citroën, and Vauxhall, as eligible models expand in grant program.

The Nissan Ariya, a popular electric SUV, is set to become more affordable for UK consumers as Nissan has announced price cuts to qualify for the UK Electric Car Grant (ECG). The expected price of the Nissan Ariya after the recent price adjustment starts at £33,500 for the entry-level 63kWh Engage (or Shiro) model, down from a previous starting price of around £39,655—a reduction of about £6,155 before the £1,500 grant, effectively making it fully eligible for the ECG.

Key details

The entry-level 63kWh model offers a WLTP range of about 251 miles. The longer-range 87kWh battery model provides up to 329 miles of range. Price reductions narrow the gap between the two battery versions from £6,000 to around £2,000. Most Ariya versions now qualify for the £1,500 UK government Electric Car Grant, except for some higher-performance AWD and Nismo variants.

Affordable Options Expand

The price cuts make the Nissan Ariya significantly more affordable in the UK market by placing key models below the £37,000 ECG eligibility threshold, with prices effectively starting in the mid £30,000s after the grant.

Other Competitive Electric Vehicles

The Vauxhall Astra Electric, priced at £33,505, and the Vauxhall Frontera Electric, priced at £22,495, offer competitive alternatives for those looking for an electric vehicle in the mid-price range. The Citroen e-C3, priced at £20,595, and the Citroen e-C4, priced at £26,150, are also popular choices for those seeking affordable electric vehicles.

The Renault Megane, priced at £30,995, and the Renault 4, priced at £25,495, are other options from the Renault stable. The Vauxhall Corsa Electric, priced at £26,005, and the Citroen e-Berlingo, priced at £29,740, round out the list of competitively priced electric vehicles available in the UK market.

ECG Expansion

The Electric Car Grant (ECG) now includes 13 more models, making it easier for consumers to access affordable electric vehicles. The eligible models include vehicles from Renault, Nissan, and Vauxhall. The grant offers discounts of either £1500 or £3750, depending on the emissions of the vehicle.

What's Next for the Nissan Ariya

Nissan will reveal pricing changes for the Ariya on Wednesday 13 August. It is not yet clear whether the price reduction will come from a cheaper new trim level or simply a reduction in the base price. Regardless, the price cuts are expected to make the Nissan Ariya even more attractive to UK consumers looking for an affordable and efficient electric vehicle.
