DoorDash Expands Delivery Services with Retail Fulfillment and Autonomous Robot Dot
DoorDash has expanded its delivery services with the launch of DashMart Fulfillment Services and the introduction of its road-capable delivery robot, Dot. The new service and robot are already in use by CVS Pharmacy and Party City, with Kroger set to join soon.
DoorDash's new fulfillment service handles inventory management, picking, packing, and delivery for retailers. It's currently used by CVS Pharmacy and Party City, with grocery giant Kroger expected to join shortly. This service works in tandem with DashMart stores, which are operated by DoorDash and handle logistics for retailers across various channels.
Dot, the road-capable delivery robot, can carry up to 30 pounds of cargo and travel at speeds up to 20 mph. It uses a low-cost sensor stack for navigation, including eight external cameras and four radar units. Dot is being piloted in the Phoenix metro area as part of DoorDash's autonomous delivery platform. This platform optimizes delivery methods in real-time, assigning deliveries to Dashers, Dot robots, drones, or sidewalk robots based on various factors. DoorDash has also introduced SmartScale, a device to improve order accuracy for restaurants and ensure reliable customer experiences.
DoorDash's expansion into retail fulfillment and autonomous delivery demonstrates its commitment to diversifying its services. With CVS Pharmacy, Party City, and soon Kroger on board, DashMart Fulfillment Services and Dot are poised to revolutionize retail delivery. The company's continued innovation, including SmartScale, ensures a seamless and accurate delivery process for both retailers and customers.
