DUA Brings Energy Education to Solingen's Elementary Schools
The German Environmental Action Association (DUA), established in 1958, is bringing its environmental education expertise to Solingen's elementary schools this academic year. In collaboration with Solingen's City Works, the DUA is offering a free energy education program to fourth-grade classes across the city.
The energy education program, designed to be fun and engaging, teaches children about electricity and heating. It covers a range of topics, including the origin of electricity, the impact of CO2 on climate change, energy-saving practices at school and home, and mindful heating of homes. Twelve elementary schools in Solingen have signed up for the program this semester.
Solingen's electricity is supplied by a mix of providers, including local energy cooperatives like BürgerEnergie Solingen eG. The city is also exploring renewable energy sources, such as solar power, with plans for a solar park along Viehbachtalstraße.
The DUA's energy education program is set to benefit over 300 fourth-grade students in Solingen this year. By learning about electricity, energy-saving, and climate change, these young minds will gain valuable knowledge to help shape a sustainable future.
