Dubai Announces Salik Toll Waiver: Criteria, Procedure, and Important Points
Dubai Introduces Salik Exemption Programme for Individuals with Disabilities
In a commendable move towards accessibility and inclusion, Dubai has launched the Salik exemption programme. This initiative aims to alleviate financial burdens for individuals with disabilities and their families, making it easier for them to navigate the city's roads.
Requirements for Salik Toll Fee Waiver
To qualify for the Salik toll fee waiver, applicants must meet certain criteria. The requirements include:
- A valid People of Determination Card issued by the Ministry of Community Development or the Sanad Card from the Community Development Authority (CDA).
- The applicant's Emirates ID.
- A vehicle registration card.
- If applying on behalf of a relative, a proof of relationship such as a birth certificate or marriage certificate is required.
- A signed commitment form if applying via email.
Application Process
Applicants can apply for the Salik exemption programme in two ways:
- Online: Through the official Salik website.
- Via Email: Applications can be sent to [email protected] with all required documents attached.
Eligibility and Renewal
The exemption program is valid for one year and must be renewed annually. Residents with mental disabilities, physical disabilities, autism, or visual disabilities can apply for a Salik fee waiver. Eligible relations include parents, spouse (with a marriage contract), children (with a birth certificate), grandparents, siblings, and grandchildren.
RFID Technology and Toll Gates
The Salik system uses RFID technology to charge vehicles automatically at toll gates, eliminating the need for booths or barriers. Dubai has ten Salik toll gates located at Al Barsha, Al Garhoud Bridge, Al Maktoum Bridge, Al Mamzar South, Al Mamzar North, Al Safa, Airport Tunnel, Jebel Ali, Business Bay Crossing, and Al Safa South.
Cost and Charges
A Salik tag costs Dh100, which includes Dh50 in credit upon activation. Online purchases include an additional Dh20 service charge. Motorists can recharge their Salik accounts through online platforms or participating retail outlets.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) manages Dubai's electronic toll collection system called Salik. The application process for the Salik fee waiver is free of charge and takes up to five working days, provided all documents meet the eligibility criteria.
Once approved, the applicant will be informed via phone. The Salik special accounts team will verify and process the request. The exemption can be transferred to another vehicle upon cancellation of the previous one.
