Dubai Unveils Major Road Improvements: New Bridge, Upgraded Streets to Ease Congestion
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled a series of road improvements and a new bridge, aiming to ease congestion and enhance connectivity in the city. The developments include a 300-metre bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road, a significant upgrade to Umm Suqeim Street, and modifications to several intersections.
The RTA, in collaboration with Majid Al Futtaim Properties, has opened a new single-lane bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road, directly linking to Mall of the Emirates' car parks. This 300-metre bridge is designed to handle up to 900 vehicles per hour, promising a substantial reduction in travel times for shoppers and visitors.
In another major project, the RTA has been working on the Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project. Spanning 6 km from Jumeirah Street to Al Khail Road, this project includes six upgraded junctions, four bridges, and two tunnels totalling 3,450 metres in length. The initiative also adds additional lanes and improves at-grade sections to tackle congestion. The southbound ramp at Umm Suqeim junction has been widened, and the junction itself has been upgraded, along with enhancements to 2.5 km of surrounding roads.
Pedestrian and cycling tracks have been upgraded as part of the project, alongside improvements to road paving, lighting, drainage, and landscaping. The RTA is set to launch this comprehensive project this year.
The RTA's recent initiatives, including the new bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road and the Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project, demonstrate a commitment to enhancing Dubai's infrastructure and improving the daily commute for its residents and visitors. These developments are expected to significantly reduce travel times and ease congestion across the city.
