Duisburg Logistics Sector Hit by Suspected Labour Law Violations
Authorities have uncovered suspected labour law violations in Duisburg's logistics sector. Inspections, conducted jointly with police, found illegal workers and potential social security office issues.
On September 30, 2025, around 50 inspectors from the Financial Control of Illegal Work, assisted by local police, carried out inspections in Duisburger city area. They targeted the logistics sector, where they discovered several irregularities.
Upon arrival at a particular object, inspectors found eight workers residing illegally in Germany, lacking the necessary residence titles. Furthermore, these workers were not registered with social security and were not paid the minimum wage, indicating potential exploitation.
Over 40 people were questioned about their employment status during the inspections. As a result, 23 proceedings were initiated on the spot, with suspicions of improper social security contributions leading to possible criminal proceedings and administrative offenses.
The inspections, led by the head of the printing department at the Duisburg Chief Customs Authority, revealed serious labour law violations. The illegal residence and employment of workers, along with suspected social security office issues, have led to further investigations. The outcome of these proceedings will be determined in due course.
