Ecocem's Green Cement Solution ACT Nears Commercial Launch
Irish company Ecocem, a pioneer in low-carbon cement technology, is nearing the commercial launch of ACT, its scalable green cement solution. The company has received crucial regulatory approvals and industry certifications, paving the way for widespread adoption.
Ecocem's journey towards sustainable cement production spans over two decades. Led by Global Managing Director Richard Godefroy, the company has invested €70 million in research and development, and new facilities over the past ten years.
The company's latest milestone is the opening of a new Research and Innovation (R&I) centre in France. Unveiled by Niall Burgess, Ambassador of Ireland to France and Monaco, the centre aims to fast-track the development of net-zero cement solutions by 2040. This significant investment of over €10 million underscores Ecocem's commitment to innovation.
ACT, Ecocem's flagship technology, uses alternative supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) and mineral additions to replace clinker, the primary ingredient in traditional cement. This approach significantly reduces the carbon dioxide footprint of cement production. Ecocem has received regulatory approvals in France and industry certification in the US, clearing the path for ACT's commercial rollout.
Ecocem's work has garnered support from major construction firms. It has partnerships with industry heavyweights such as Bouygues Construction, Vinci Construction, and the Titan Group, demonstrating the industry's confidence in Ecocem's low-carbon cement technologies.
With ACT close to commercial availability, regulatory approvals in place, and a new R&I centre driving innovation, Ecocem is poised to revolutionize the cement industry. Its low-carbon technologies promise a more sustainable future for construction, with net-zero cement solutions on track for 2040.
