Edeka's Massive New Logistics Center to Boost Regional Economy
Edeka has opened a state-of-the-art logistics center in Marktredwitz, Upper Franconia. The facility, set to fully operate in the second quarter of 2026, will supply over 800 stores across Northern Bavaria, Saxony, and Thuringia. This expansive project, costing around 360 million euros, is the largest construction venture by the corporate group.
Spanning an impressive 470,000 square meters, equivalent to approximately 66 soccer fields, the new central warehouse is a significant addition to the region. Edeka plans to create around 600 jobs in the area over the medium term, contributing to the local news.
The 'freshman manufactory' in Hirschaid, a highly modern food operation, was opened in the spring. This facility, along with the new logistics center, demonstrates Edeka's commitment to investing in and expanding its operations in Upper Franconia.
