Enlargement of the district heating system in Solingen-Süd: installation of new pipelines in parks and streets
Solingen, a city known for its rich industrial heritage, is embarking on a significant project to future-proof its district heating network. The city centre's southern district heating network is being modernized and upgraded, with specific construction work planned along Augustastraße and Vorspel park.
The project, spearheaded by Solingen Stadtwerke, aims to enhance supply reliability and increase the network's capacity to meet growing demand for environmentally friendly heating energy. The work involves upgrading the district heating pipelines to improve energy efficiency.
Along Augustastraße, the construction will focus on replacing the existing older pipelines with insulated modern pipes. To facilitate this, the street will become a one-way street towards Weyersberger Straße during construction, and a detour will be set up for traffic moving in the opposing direction. Detailed information on detours and schedules will be provided by the city administration. Pedestrians and residents should anticipate disruptions during this time due to work in the park area.
Near Vorspel park, the network expansion includes connecting additional residential and commercial buildings to the district heating system and installing new control stations. Work on the pipeline in the park area will commence this week, with the footpath along Blumenstraße closing and expected reopening by mid-September. The construction will temporarily close the intersection of Augustastraße and Blumenstraße.
The construction along Augustastraße is scheduled to begin in early August 2025 and is expected to last approximately 4 weeks. Work near Vorspel park will start in mid-September 2025 and continue through October 2025. The entire modernization phase in these areas aims for completion by the end of October 2025, with final testing and commissioning shortly afterward.
Following the park works, construction will move to Augustastraße after the summer break. The entire project is expected to be completed by autumn, modernizing Solingen's district heating network and ensuring a sustainable, reliable energy supply for years to come.
For more precise dates or updates, residents are encouraged to check local municipal announcements or contact Solingen Stadtwerke directly.
This project, led by Solingen Stadtwerke, seeks to revolutionize Solingen's district heating network, emphasizing renewable-energy and environmental-science for a sustainable, reliable energy supply. The modernization and expansion involve science and finance, as the city invests to meet growing demand for environmentally friendly heating energy. The construction period in Augustastraße will primarily focus on improving energy efficiency by replacing older pipelines with insulated modern ones, while the expansion near Vorspel park includes connecting additional buildings to the district heating system.
