Essential bank branches run by NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland to be closed, here's the complete list revealed

In a recent announcement, it has been revealed that mobile bank branches operated by NATWEST and Royal Bank of Scotland will be closing in January 2026. This decision will affect over 46 branches across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. However, affected customers still have alternatives to access basic banking services without having to travel to another town with a branch.

The Post Office offers 11,684 branches for basic banking tasks, although they do not facilitate opening new bank accounts or providing personal loans and mortgages. Customers can find their nearest Post Office branch by visiting postoffice.co.uk/branch-finder.

To address the convenience gap created by the mobile branch closures, new super ATMs are being rolled out across the UK in affected areas. These machines allow customers to withdraw funds, access their balance, change PIN numbers, and deposit cash. Some banks, including Bank of Scotland, Barclays, Halifax, Lloyds, and Ulster Bank, have already signed up to allow deposits at these super ATMs.

Additionally, banking hubs are being opened across the country, with 250 set to be available by the end of 2025. Each banking hub offers a counter service operated by the Post Office for routine transactions, as well as private booths for discussing complex banking matters with staff from respective banks. They combine personal service with digital solutions to provide seamless, efficient banking experiences.

Banking hubs offer comprehensive services including around-the-clock access to banking through phone and online platforms, security, convenience, and tailored financial products for diverse customer needs, such as migrant banking and offshore banking benefits like asset protection, privacy, and investment opportunities.

Staff from different banks are available on a rotational basis at banking hubs, ensuring a wide range of banking services throughout the week. Customers should contact their bank to inquire about available mobile services and their schedules.

While the closures will leave thousands of customers without easy access to essential everyday banking services, particularly in areas lacking physical branch locations, the expansion of banking hubs aims to mitigate this issue. The spokesperson for NatWest stated that they will continue to invest in creating a sustainable branch network.

It is important to note that some banks offer a mobile banking service, bringing buses to designated areas with services similar to physical branches. These mobile units visit designated locations up to five days a week, except on Christmas Day and Bank Holidays. Banks also use buildings such as village halls or libraries for mobile banking services.

Customers can receive advice and support on various financial products and services, including loans, mortgages, and savings accounts, at banking hubs. For those who may need to travel further for banking services, it is recommended to plan ahead and utilise the resources available to make the process as smooth as possible.
