EU Unveils 'E-car' Initiative for Affordable Small Cars, Backed by Stellantis
The European Union is set to introduce a new category of affordable small cars, a move welcomed by car manufacturers like Stellantis. The initiative, named 'E-car' by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, aims to cater to millions of Europeans seeking budget-friendly, European-made vehicles.
The EU's decision comes after car makers, including Stellantis, vigorously pushed for a lower-cost category of small cars. Stellantis praised the move, with von der Leyen adopting their proposed name 'E-car'. The 'E' stands for 'European', reflecting the cars' origin, as well as 'environmental' and 'economical', highlighting their eco-friendly nature and affordability.
Von der Leyen announced the initiative in her speech on 10 September. The new category is designed to make European cars more accessible to a wider range of consumers, potentially benefiting both manufacturers and buyers.
The EU's new small affordable cars category, dubbed 'E-car', is expected to hit the market soon. Backed by car manufacturers and consumers alike, it promises to bring more affordable, eco-friendly European cars to the market. The initiative's success will depend on its ability to balance environmental standards with cost-effectiveness.
