Eviction Ban Lift Sparks Controversy in Ireland

The Irish government's decision to let an eviction ban expire on 1 April has sparked controversy. Over 4,300 tenants in the Republic of Ireland received eviction notices in the last quarter of 2022.

The ban's lifting has raised concerns, with 58% of terminations attributed to landlords planning to sell their properties. Despite this, no specific organization has been identified as planning to discipline nearly 4,500 homeowners involved in the last quarter of 2022.

In the coming months, another 2,630 terminations are anticipated between April and July 2023. Meanwhile, the government of Northern Ireland has unveiled a new affordable homes plan, aiming to address housing concerns.

The expiration of the eviction ban has led to a significant number of terminations, with many landlords planning to sell their properties. While no disciplinary action has been announced, the situation remains under scrutiny. The government of Northern Ireland, however, has introduced a plan to increase affordable housing options.
